About Us

We are a Cycling UK affiliated Mountain Bike Club who actually ride up and down Mountains! We're based in Lancaster and have been running in our current form for decades.

We continue to expand and have a selection of members from novice to nutter. We seem to attract reprobates from all over the North West, with riders travelling from places such as Nantwich in the South and Penrith in the North.

We are a fully inclusive club and welcome all to the Bogtrotters.  Membership of the club is open to anyone interested Mountain Biking, regardless of race, colour, ancestry, nationality, ethnicity, age*, sex, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity or expression, religion or other beliefs.  We do not tolerate discrimination, hate speech, bullying or harrasment in any form.

*The club does not accept membership from minors or children. Minors and children may attend rides and events with a parent or responsible adult. The parent /responsible adult will be in charge of the child and its welfare.

Rides and events are posted on our "members only" Facebook Page which only paid up members have access to; however we do put on an occasional “Super Sunday Social” ride and Beginner rides which are open to all, newbies and current members alike.  You’ll find details of these inclusive rides on our “normal” Facebook page.

It’s our members that put on rides and you’ll find a regular Wednesday night ride every week, all year round, in the Lakes with our Wednesday Night Northern Chapter™ or around Lancashire with the Southern Softies™.  You’ll also find us riding most weekends; rides are varied depending who puts them on but expect, easy social rides, epic hike-a-bike, bikepacking, uplift days and everything else in between!  The rides are graded by distance, elevation and technicality e.g. 15miles, 1800ft and Red tech.

We go to a couple of races during the year but can no means be classed as racing whippets, we tend to excel at the social side of the weekends; the Sam Houghton Challenge and the South Lakes Bike Fest are particular favourites of ours.

Being well 'ard northern types as we are, we are blessed with some of the most spectacular riding in the country and can manage to get to a vast selection of rides in the Lake District and Yorkshire faster than you could say "Skiddaw, Ullock Pike, Nan Bield, Walna Scar, Claife Heights, Pennyghent, Garburn Pass, High Street, Helvellyn, Grizedale, Whinlatter, Duddon Valley, Horton, Hawes, Norber, Swaledale and Satterthwaite" which is the sort of thing that you would say on a regular basis, obviously!

We take numerous weekend and some week long breaks during the year and have made ourselves known in Fort William, Glentress, Dumfries & Galloway, Innerleithen, The Brecon Beacons, The Peak District, Bala, Betws-y-Coed, The Quantocks, to name just a few places.  We aim to run a holiday abroad once per year. So far we have visited Chamonix, Morzine, Les Gets and Les Houches in the French Alps, Gran Canaria, Austria, and the Sierra Nevada in Spain and Utah in the States. Much fun they were too! Several members have also taken part in the Megavalanche at Alpe Du Huez in the French Alps.

There is a £6 signing-on fee that also includes membership fees until the end of the year; thereafter, membership fees are £6 per year with guaranteed fun written into the club rules and a whole bunch of other really good stuff! We do require all members to have 3rd Party Insurance; the easiest way to do this is by joining Cycling UK.  As we are an affiliated club you can get membership of Cycling UK currently for £33 per year.  The code for this can be found in the "Members Area".  We don't ask potential members to part with much money (£2 per ride) until they have been out on a couple of rides so feel free to join in and see if you like it (and us!).  We are a non-profit club and as such all subs collected go to; general running costs (e.g. hosting this website and domain name), annual donation to both Air Ambulance and Mountain rescue and other charitable gifts.
